After 30 years of teaching in Compton, CA and one year at the U.S. House of Representatives Page School, I retired and moved to Seattle. Retirement gives one time to concentrate on photographic but I soon realized that there was still work to be done to support young people, In 1994 I started Youth in Focus in Seattle. (www.youthinfocus.org). The program continues to grow and yearly 200 youth in the area enter the 10 week all-year programs offering free classes in traditional and digital photography. In 2001, dynamic and talented leadership of the organization entered the organization and has moved it to a very successful level of service. At this time I am looking forward to working with the members to strengthen the activities, programs and valuable network of SPENW . Despite ugly rumors photography is not dead. In fact, it is more alive than ever.

Deke has been the owner and operator of On the edge Images and On the edge Media Group for over 29 years, which started in the southwestern United States. In the last ten years and after the relocation of the business and his family to the northwest, he has changed the formal business structure to be known as On the edge, LLC. This encompasses six divisions and offers not only the highest quality still photography available, but also separate teams which handle audio, video, web development, graphic design, apparel, print and marketing. Together, this group of creative’s work tremendously well together and have three things above all else, in the forefront of their minds for any project they do. (1) Exceed the client’s expectations. (2) Always think about the client’s “Return On Investment.” (3) Love and Live what you do, or don’t do it. By living these 3 simple rules, Deke and his team have been able to capture work and projects over the years for such companies as: Pepsi Cola, Teen Aid, Northwest Mining Association, Massage Magazine, Adidas, March of Dimes, Better Nutrition, Bumble Bar, Mars, Arthritis Foundation, Timberland, Organic Gardening, San Pellegrino, Virgo Publishing, Seeds of Change, Colgate Palmolive, Group Health Cooperative, Science Diet, Phelps Dodge, Rodale Press, Warner Brothers, Finance Magazine, Organic and Natural News, Land Expressions, Church Business Monthly, and many more. Deke is a tremendously talented artist and photographer who fully understands the business and marketing world all too well. In his younger days he spent many years in management for three of the top corporations in the United States. His ability to communicate the necessary items that a project requires, in combination with his speed and follow-through on the project, is simply second to none. He is easy to do business with, is very tech savvy and can outperform most anyone in the industry. He does not take on project that he or his team cannot perform and is grateful beyond belief that he was put on the earth to do one thing: “Offer long-term business solutions that not only work and are highly impactful, but show well above average Return On Investment to EVERY company or project he takes on.”
